EDMES Kids on the World Wide Web

What is a Search Engine?

A "search engine" is a service offered on the world wide web that helps surfers find sites offering information on a particular subject. This is done by a computer that searches several web sites for an item requested.  If, for instance, you are interested in skiing, you may want to read related articles or see the newest equipment; you might want to see who won the Olympics or where to ski in Utah.  Simply choose a search engine site below  to give it a try.

Using parenthesis around "word groups" will help narrow the search to specific areas.  You can ask for "skiing" and "races" or "skiers".  When you ask for items in parenthesis, you are stating the specific items you need to see.  You may also you and/or to better define your needs.  Try listing your name and see what you get.
