Introduction
This Webquest
is designed to introduce students to a research process using
resources from the internet. The objective of this WebQuest
is to gain a greater understanding of insects, especially beetles.
The Task
Pretend, for
this exercise, that you are a beetle or other insect:
1.What is your species?
2.Where do you live?
3. How is what you look like related to your environment?
4. Describe in detail what you look like and how
you are different from other insects. Write one typed written
page about your insect.
5. Design a mask of your beetle that you can wear
during your presentation (you will read your report so make
it interesting).
This site may give you ideas
.
6. Build a model or draw a colorful picture of your
habitat and of yourself. Make this into a mobile with your bug as the center
attraction. Include the name of your insect, number of body parts, where
your insect is found and one other interesting fact that you have found.
LET'S TURN OUR ROOM INTO A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN "BUG" THE TEACHER ALL
DAY LONG.
The Process
Visit
the links provided (the web sites that we direct you to) to
discover things about your own species and about other insects.
Feel free to take notes. At the end of the process, you will be asked
to pass in a two page written rough draft, your one typewritten
page, and do an oral presentation about "yourself" (That's the
new fictitious you, not the student you are in your other life).
Resources
Evaluation
You will be graded on this project,
not only for participation, resourcefulness, and the things you learn,
but also for the individuality of your final report .
Conclusion
Not
only have you learned about insects in this exercise, we hope
you have also learned about the powerful tool your computer can
be when put to the test. If you decide to search for additional
information, please beware! Not all websites are factual or appropriate
for children. Have a grownup learn some new things with you.
You'll be surprised at how much you can help each other.
