The Men Who Made a Difference

The notable people of the Civil War were not only soldiers of the North and South.  They were the people who fought for freedom and brought about change.

The 1850s were a time of inventions, from weapons to the cotton gin, many that made a huge impact on the changing needs of the nation.

Please look through the pages that follow to learn more about some of these people.  Your input is welcome in expanding this section.  Consider writing a few paragraphs on someone who interests you.

Abe Lincoln, one of the nations most notable presidents, assassinated just as peace was unfolding.

 

David Farragut, joined the Navy at the age of 9 and went on to become the first Admiral of the US Navy.

 

Matthew Brady, overcame a rare eye disease, to become one of the greatest photographers in history.  He was the first to record historical events on the battlefield.

 

Frederick Douglass was an escaped slave, who's efforts brought about the Emancipation Proclamation, thereby allowing blacks their freedom and their right to serve in the armed forces.
